Build Your First Funnel in Systeme.io · Lesson 6 of 6
Common Funnel Mistakes (and How to Avoid Them)
Most first funnels don't fail because of the platform — they fail because of one of a handful of avoidable setup mistakes. Check your own build against this list before you call it finished.
Check your funnel against this list
- A step still set to draft. It's easy to build a page, get pulled away, and forget to publish it. Walk the funnel map one more time and confirm every step's status.
- A CTA that doesn't match the page above it. If the opt-in page promises a checklist, the button should say something closer to "Send Me the Checklist" than a generic "Submit" — vague buttons convert worse than specific ones.
- No tag, no automation. A form that collects an email but isn't tied to a tag and a rule just adds a contact to a list — it doesn't move them into your sequence. Confirm the tag-and-rule connection from Lesson 3 is actually active.
- Order page price doesn't match the product. Double-check the price shown on the page against the product settings — a mismatch here usually only gets noticed after a customer complains.
- Skipping the real test purchase. Previewing a page isn't the same as completing a checkout with real payment fields. Run the full test from Lesson 5 yourself, every time you change the checkout step.
- Building every step before testing the first one. Get the opt-in page and its first email fully working and tested before you build the sales page and upsell — catching a broken automation early costs minutes, catching it after the whole funnel is built costs hours of redoing work.
- Ignoring your free-plan limits as you grow. Contact and funnel limits step up by plan. Keep an eye on where you sit so an upgrade decision doesn't ambush you mid-launch — see our full Systeme.io review for the current tier breakdown.
- No plan for what happens after the first sale. A funnel that stops at "thank you for your purchase" leaves an upsell, a bump, or a next offer on the table. Revisit your Lesson 1 plan and decide if a second offer belongs in this funnel or a follow-up one.
If you're revisiting an earlier step, Lesson 2 covers building funnel steps and pages, and Lesson 5 has the full pre-launch checklist.
That's the end of this course. The short version, across all six lessons: plan the offer and funnel shape before you open the editor, build and test one step at a time, connect email and payment deliberately instead of as an afterthought, and run the full checklist before you ever send real traffic to it.
