Build Your First Funnel in Systeme.io · Lesson 3 of 6
Set Up an Email Follow-Up Campaign for Your Funnel
A funnel with no email behind it only gets one shot at every visitor. This lesson connects an email sequence to the funnel you built in Lesson 2, so it keeps selling after someone closes the tab.
Create the campaign
- Click Emails in the left sidebar.
- Click Campaigns, then Create.
- Name the campaign after its job — "Opt-in Nurture" or "Cart Follow-Up," not "Campaign 1."
Write the first email
- Click Add an email inside the campaign.
- Set the send timing — "Immediately" for the first email in the sequence, so a new contact hears from you right away.
- Write a subject line and body that deliver on exactly what the opt-in page promised. Nothing kills trust faster than a lead magnet that doesn't match its follow-up.
- Click Save.
Add the rest of the sequence
- Click Add an email again for each remaining message in your sequence.
- Set each one's delay — for example, 1 day, 3 days, 6 days after the previous email — so the sequence spaces itself out instead of arriving all at once.
- Build toward the offer from your Lesson 1 plan: each email should either build trust or move the reader one step closer to the sales page, not just restate the last one.
Connect it to your funnel with a tag
- Go back to Funnels and open your opt-in step's settings.
- Under the step's form settings, set it to add a specific tag — for
example,
opted-in— to every contact who submits it. - Click Automations in the left sidebar, then Create a rule.
- Set the trigger to A tag is added and choose the tag from step 2.
- Set the action to Subscribe to a campaign and pick the campaign you just built.
- Click Save.
Now every new opt-in is tagged automatically and dropped straight into the sequence — no manual step for you to remember.
Send a test contact through it
- Submit your own opt-in form using a personal email address.
- Confirm the tag was applied under Contacts.
- Confirm the first email arrives, and that the timing on the rest of the sequence matches what you set.
Systeme.io keeps campaigns, tags, and automation rules in one place, which is part of what keeps the free plan usable for a first real funnel instead of a stripped-down demo.
